Tornado!

In Peterborough yesterday we had a tornado! It’s not an unusual thing to happen in the UK, but they’re rarely destructive. This one uprooted trees, knocked down walls and damaged houses.

The local news site can say it all much better than I can:

WHEN a tornado came roaring out of the blue it scythed across Peterborough leaving people shocked and shaken and properties wrecked.

People screamed as the freak gale reached speeds of up to 130mph and sent slates flying off roofs and garden walls crashing down. Fences were flattened, trees ripped up, and garages were reduced to rubble.

Motorists on city parkways had to pull over as they were blinded by driving rain, tossed about by the wind, and they had to dodge flying debris.

Some areas in the north of Peterborough looked like bomb sites after the impact of the tornado which had howled across the country after smashing its way through Birmingham leaving three people critically injured.
