Out of the CL

Well, I didn’t have to go to bed early but Arsenal still managed to play badly enough to go out of the Champions League last night. It was a scrappy, lifeless and mostly passionless performance, with only Philippe Senderos and Thierry Henry emerging with any credit. Oh, and Matthieu Flamini, who did well alongside Vieira. Senderos was superb at the back and won everything, only making one big mistake at the end when he was tired from his efforts during the game.

Too much rushed football, not enough composed passing and an opponent who came to attack made for a frustrating night. The best team across the two legs of the tie went through, without a doubt.

Another year of disappointment in Europe, but it’s not as if Arsenal aren’t used to it by now. Can we fast forward to August please?
